“I’m not good enough to justify these guitars”

You don’t have to be a professional guitarist to enjoy a well-made instrument.

Omer Deutsch

“I’m not good enough to justify these guitars.”

It might be the sentence I hear most often when someone sees my work. Sometimes it comes out as, “These guitars are out of my league.” I understand the feeling, but I don’t think your playing level should decide whether you are allowed to enjoy a good instrument.

You don’t have to earn that permission by reaching a certain speed, learning a difficult solo or making music your profession.

Enjoying good equipment is enough

I fly competition RC gliders with high-end hardware, but I don’t compete. I simply enjoy flying well-made gliders. I appreciate the thought, precision and work that go into them, and I enjoy how they feel in the air.

The same goes for guitars. You don’t have to play like Steve Vai, or whoever inspires you, to appreciate an instrument that feels right in your hands.

Playing at home, writing your own music or spending an evening exploring sounds are all valid reasons to enjoy a guitar. There is no audition you need to pass first.

Inspiration can change how you practise

A new guitar won’t replace practice or automatically make you a better player. But a guitar that feels right can inspire you to play more and explore new ideas.

Sometimes it is the comfort of the neck. Sometimes it is the response of the instrument, a different bridge or simply the feeling of picking it up. Those things can make you want to spend more time playing.

That is where the value can be, in what the instrument encourages you to do with it.

Why I chose a Bia for myself

I’ve felt stuck in my own playing too. That feeling led me to choose a Bia with a tremolo and some features I wouldn’t usually choose for myself.

The idea was to push myself to try something different. Building guitars is my work, but I also want to keep discovering things as a player. Choosing an unfamiliar setup was one way to give myself that invitation.

You don’t need to prove yourself

A guitar should fit your playing, your interests and what you want to create. It doesn’t have to be a reward you postpone until you feel good enough.

If an instrument makes you want to pick it up and play, that matters. You can enjoy it at the level you are now, and keep growing with it.

You don’t need to prove yourself to enjoy a guitar you love.
